WOW-zers
Setting up this blog thing was sooo much easier and faster than i thought it would be. My name is Joya! Hello family and friends!!! I have set up this online journal so that you can track my adventures in Peace Corps Costa Rica!!!! My orientation is scheduled for Feb 27 and my departure to San Jose (Capital of Costa Rica) is March 1!!! So i have a good amount of time to do some more prep work. I have to write this purpose statement and get one more cavitiy filled in...
My reactions so far...I am excited and scared. All of a sudden my dreams are comig tru and its hard to reckon that my reality is the SAME as my dream. I'm also scared because i don't know what will happen to my relationships here in the states. When i went away to college (in Ithaca, NY) I lost contact with every single high school friend I had. I was only one phonecall or email or Christmas card away and I couldn't even keep in touch. - - mind you, they must not have tried very hard either, but still i can take some personal accountability - - So anyway, I think I have pretty valid concern to wonder if I'll be able to maintain good relationships while I'm living in a whole nother COUNTRY. You know, before i get back the toodlers i know will be kindergarteners [ooh by the way, blogspot does not have spell check so please bare bear with my spelling and I will try not to look REALLY stupid -being a Cornell Grad and all - but terribly dependant on Microsoft Word spell check and thesaurus]
Oh ok yeah so one of the beauties of sharing this journal will be to show ya'll the 'maze-like' intricacies of my thought flow. LOLOLOLOLOL it MUST indicate genius. Any way - I digress waaaay far from where i was going. lolol
The point is; while i have some hesitations and somber feelings right now, I know i have the victory over loneliness or any other negative emotion/impact that may result from two years away from family, friends and everything that is familiar to me.
I am beyond excited to be privileged, healthy and blessed enough to spend two years in exotic, WARM, Costa Rica working in rural community development. Thank you for readin my blog and i hope you check back often to see whas up with me! Send me notes and emails too so i know you care. Love, Joya
